Another 7 Special Needs Parenting Tips

For runners who are trying to win a marathon, there are no breaks. If you want to stay in the race you have to pace yourself in order to finish.  This also applies to parenting.  Here’s 8 tips for your special needs parenting marathon especially when there appears to be no finish line in sight:

  1. Bury your guilt in the backyard.
  2. Be a parent not a therapist.  
  3. Reach out and ask for help when you need it.
  4. Live in the present and enjoy the joyful moments. 
  5. Take deep breaths regularly. Then, take more deep breaths.
  6. Laughter is therapeutic so find something that makes you laugh.

And the one that’s seen me thru the last 19-years with my boys on the autism spectrum:
