Take The Next Step: Joy In Obedience

December 13, 2012

Faith At Home, Interact, Nudge, Time

JoyThis month our virture is Joy (“Finding a way to be happy in all circumstances because God loves me”).  Joy can often be found in our obedience to the Lord in the midst of our circumstances.  Here’s something practical that you can do to help your child understand the meaning of joy.

Throughout this month, be quick to affirm your child when he is obedient or when he makes righteous choices.  Your child makes a variety of choices during the course of the day.  Keep your eyes open to those moments in which a choice is made.  For example, I have a son who uses a choice board (an app on his iPad) and this is a perfect moment for me to talk about the topic of joy.

When your child makes good choices, remind him know that the Lord blesses those that make God-honoring choices.  Explain that when we disobey God we end up feeling guilty and unhappy, but when we obey God we feel joyful.

Share the verse below with your child and bless your child with your words of affirmation or a small reward.

Luke 11:28 But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” (Jesus  speaking) .
