Not Alone: Henry and Karelyn

December 4, 2012

Not Alone

TheMartinsWe were not wired by our Maker to try and get through life on our own.  He has created within us a deep desire to share life with each other.  It’s part of His plan.  Staying emotionally healthy and meeting the various challenges of parenting children with special needs is easier when you share life with others.  At First Baptist Orlando we’re passionate about doing life together.  Meet Henry and Karelyn:

Our story:

In 1997 our son Angel was diagnosed with autism, then in 2005 our daughter Grace was diagnosed with severe autism, soon after our son Brandon was diagnosed with Autism and anxiety disorder. It was a difficult period for us as we tried to accept the facts that three of our children were diagnosed with autism. We visited many churches trying to find a church home that could provide the help and support that we needed for us as parents and also for our kids with special needs.

Family members names and ages:

  • Henry 35
  • Karelyn 35
  • Angel 18
  • Mariah 16
  • Brandon 12
  • Grace 8

How we found First Baptist Orlando:

We found First Baptist Orlando online searching for special needs ministries in the Orlando area.

What we like about First Baptist Orlando:

What we like about First baptist Orlando is the amazing support, understanding, and love we receive for our family from the special needs ministry along with sound teaching from our pastors.

How Has Being Able to Participate in Worship/Life Groups Changed My Life?

Been able to worship and pray together as a family has brought our family closer together.

Favorite bible verse:

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” 2 Corinthian 1:3-4
